Extensive police search underway for firecrackers and fireworks

So far, 53 people have been arrested and about 280,000 pyrotechnic articles have been confiscated during 892 inspections carried out in shops, houses and vehicles

Extensive searches are being conducted throughout the region for possession and trafficking of firecrackers and fireworks, in view of the Easter holiday. As part of the targeted inspections, so far 53 people have been arrested and about 280,000 pyrotechnic articles have been confiscated during 892 inspections carried out in shops, houses and vehicle.

According to the police statement, “The inspections will continue unabated throughout the country, aimed at preventing the illegal possession and trafficking of firecrackers and fireworks, in order to protect from accidents the users and unsuspecting citizens.”

The Greek Police, as part of the measures for the prevention of such accidents, advises the public and especially parents, the following :

– The manufacture, marketing, purchase, possession and use of firecrackers as well as the use of these articles is strictly prohibited.

– The purchase of firecrackers and fireworks is illegal. Do not buy them.

– Prevent children from using or manufacturing them.

– Inform children about the dangers of serious injury, amputation and even death.
