Andros: The “green” jewel of the Cyclades

This dreamy island stands out of the rest of the Cyclades, due to its lush green vegetation!

Newsroom May 31 06:27

Culture and nature at their finest!

Andros, the northernmost and second largest island of the Cyclades is covered in lush green vegetation, mainly due to its rich surface and underground water resources.

However, apart from jaw-dropping natural beauty, the island of Andros also boasts a rich cultural heritage and a long naval tradition, which is why the island has been aptly nicknamed “a floating museum of culture.”

Another unique feature of the island is its magnificent architecture which combines white-washed houses with neoclassical mansions and Venetian towers.

Located a stone’s throw from Athens, Andros is an ideal getaway destination for the inhabitants of the Greek capital, who can arrive there by ferry from the harbor of Rafina in only two hours.

Discovering the island

The first thing you notice as you reach the port of Gavrio is the amazing architecture of the settlement, with its white washed houses, little shops, a central promenade and a lighthouse in the middle of the sea. Then, after about ten minutes of driving you get to Batsi, one of the main tourist resorts on the island. The beach there is ideal for families and also for water sports enthusiasts.
Among the settlements of the southern part of the island Korthi is the most popular destination. The picturesque village with a huge beach attracts surfers from all around the world. Finally, one of the most beautiful places on the island is its aristocratic capital, which will impress you with its elegance!
