British Telegraph newspaper has included Koufonisia in its series of the best unsung holiday resorts in Europe, offering a guide to the amazing island, with information on accommodation and restaurants.

According to the article, the elements that make this destination special are “the sand, the sea and the sun that recall the long forgotten Greece of the 1960’s”.

“Hidden away between the larger Cycladic islands of Naxos and Amorgos, Koufonissia (plural) is made up of two tiny islets, Ano Koufonissi (Upper Koufonissi) and Kato Koufonissi (Lower Koufonissi), which are separated by a 200-metre sea channel. While Kato Koufonissi remains uninhabited, Ano Koufonissi, with its whitewashed Cycladic cottages, has a buzzing little community of 366 locals who live mainly of fishing,” says the British newspaper.
