Low-cost air carrier Ryanair announced today that its summer flights from London Stansted airport to Chania on Crete were extended to the end of November.
The UK and the island of Crete will be connected with two flights per week (every Thursday and Sunday) until November 30, said the air carrier’s announcement.
John Alborante, who is Ryanair’s sales and marketing manager for Greece, announced the extension of the flights to and from Chania with the following words: “We are glad to announce today the extension of one of our Summer Route into the Winter Season in Greece, offering to our customers the chance to travel from London Stansted to Chania and vice versa until the end of November.”
Alborante also referred to passenger taxes saying that if the Greek government reduced or even eliminated the high passenger tax (12 euros per passenger), the company would consider the extension of the route for the entire winter season, and extend the season at other airports.
“After the opening of our first Greek base in Chania last year, we launched this year two other bases in Athens and Thessaloniki, with a total of 5 based aircrafts and 4 million passengers transported this year in Greece, showing our commitment to supporting the growth of tourism and of the local economy. There is potential to extend the season, which itself gives a tourism boost to the region,” Alborante added.
