How to pack sensibly when you travel to Greece

Here are some useful tips to help you avoid the perils of overpacking.

Newsroom August 16 04:33

Packing for your trip to Greece should be a fun and easy experience, provided you did not wait until the last minute to do it, burdening yourself with pre-vacation stress. Even if this is the case, relax! We are here to give you some useful tips that will help you pack efficiently and enjoy a care-free vacation.

1. Choose a soft-sided bag, suitable for carry-on. A suitcase will only make things harder for you, even if it has wheels. The cobblestone streets on the Greek islands are not ideal for this type of luggage.

2. Decide what you will wear to travel in. Wear your bulkiest shoes and jacket as part of your travel outfit, to avoid extra weight.

3. Bring a camera with extra digital media (in most case, these are much cheaper outside of Greece).

4. Take small-size toiletries and makeup.

5. Pack a lightweight windbreaker or sweater/sweatshirt. Summer temperatures in Greece are high even in the evenings, and it is very unlikely that you’ll need more than that.

6. Leave your city shoes at home, along with your heavy boots, unless you’re going hiking. Bring flat sandals and avoid high heels, unless you want to take your chances on the cobblestone streets.

7. Pack clothing that can work for both day and night, such as long cotton skirts, light and airy cotton shirts, pants and dresses!

8. All pharmacies and supermarkets in Greece sell shampoos, deodorants, sun creams and other health care products, so you should consider to buy those when you reach your destination.

Remember, packing lightly is the secret to a carefree vacation!
