“The days when all the newspapers reported that the Greeks feature images of Chancellor Merkel with a swastika armband and the German tourists felt unwelcome to Greece are long gone,” said in an interview with the German newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten the president of the German Travel Agents Association (DRV) Norbert Fiebig.
The German CEO commented on the fact that Greece is once again among the preferred destinations of the German travelers and noted that a few years ago – as a result of the crisis – many Germans turned their backs on Greece, choosing other destinations.
“However, this trend was short-lived,” said Mr. Fiebig, underlining that even in the difficult years of the crisis more than two million Germans remained faithful to Greece, choosing the Greek islands for their summer vacation.
“Based on tour operator data, this summer, increases in bookings to Greek destinations have grown to a double digit percentage,” the CEO of DRV stressed, noting that most German tourists prefer Crete, Rhodes and Corfu for their summer holidays.
