Education Minister Andreas Loverdos and Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni announced their plans for two undergraduate programs on tourism exclusively for fee-paying foreign students from outside the EU. The two courses are to be available at the University of Crete in Rethymno and the University of the Aegean on the isle of Rhodes. Their decision is aimed at capitalizing Greece’s reputation as a global tourism destination to attract foreign students.

Mr. Loverdos said the course that is due to start in the next academic year would be open to students of other countries that would pay fees to take part. He said more courses for fee-paying non-EU students were on their way. These would include courses on naval studies on the isle of Chios and two English-language courses in Greek and literature to be offered by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the University of Thrace.
