George Apostolopoulos, alleged middleman in the Chaikalis scandal counterattacks, accusing the ANEL MP and once close friend that the political was ready to accept any kind of bribe to give a positive vote to elect a President of the Republic!

“In the summer of 2014, I was surprised when during some of our regular meetings, Chaikalis confided in me that he would be ready to even leave ANEL or accept any kind of payoff to vote positively for the President of the Republic. There, at the same meeting, I asked him why, and he said he had serious financial problems”, stated Mr. Apostolopoulos during his testimony to Deputy Prosecutor Panos Panagiotopoulos.

As Mr. Apostolopoulos asserts, these meetings with Pavlos Chaikalis were made in order to ascertain “the true motives for his involvement in politics and the ANEL movement and to ascertain his moral political debauchery, ie, to what point an active politician could sink to during critical circumstances for the country”

“My relationship with ANEL was sacred and I was interested in their qualitative political process”, stated Mr. Apostolopoulos, adding “I should explicitly testify to the prosecutor that I was planning to report Chaikalis’ selfish behavior, on which I have irrefutable evidence, but events preceded my actions”.
