Papandreou: Leaders worldwide claim that the referendum was indeed a wise choice

"We have formed our party so that the political ideas that we represent will not perish"

Newsroom January 13 10:20

The leader of the newly-formed Democratic Socialists Movement George Papandreou insists on the usefulness of a referendum question of “yes” or “no” to the euro. The former PASOK prime minister told Greek TV channel Antenna that “leaders worldwide claim that the referendum would indeed be a wise choice” and he added that it was a decision that would allow for the “voice of the Greek people to be heard.”

Furthermore, the leader of the Democratic Socialists Movement stated that “the problem is not the memorandum, but the causes that brought us to the memorandum.”

Pulse poll: ND leads by 16.5 points, the 2nd largest margin since 2016, with left and center-left losing ground — Karystianou, Tsipras

He refered to the notorious slogan, “Money exists”, that he had made just prior to the debt crisis and clarified that everyone seemed to have forgotten that an “If” was at the beginning of the sentence. Mr. Papandreou stated that his predecessor, former conservative ND party prime minister Konstandinos Karamanlis handed him a country that was already bankrupt with a huge deficit and debt.

“We have formed our party so that the political ideas that we represent will not perish,” he said.
