Mitsotakis: Government incompetent

Leader of ND blasts Turkey and Albania

Newsroom November 23 12:23

Addressing his parliamentary group, Wednesday, New Democracy (ND) president Kyriakos Mitsotakis accused the coalition government of SYRIZA-ANEL of lacking a coherent foreign policy plan amid times of uncertainty. He underlined the need for a political change with a stable government, while dubbed the statements made by Turkish President Recep Erdogan on the total revision of the Lausanne Treaty “unacceptable”. Mitsotakis also accused Albania of adopting extreme nationalistic rhetoric, while he warned of the dangers of the refugee deal completely collapsing, adding that the government did not appear to have a back-up plan. “Amid such an environment of volatility Greece is in the margins. The government is handling the tectonic changes with no clear strategy”, he said. Mitsotakis claimed there was a desire for political change within the Greek society. “This trend for change was clearly reflected”, he said. The leader of the major opposition party accused the government of using the debt relief as a smokescreen to cover up its incompetence, adding that a debt restructuring was necessary and would happen, but only after bold reforms were implemented in the Greek economy. Presenting his party’s plan to lift the country out of the economic recession, Mitsotakis underlined the need for drastic tax cuts to give the economy a chance to breathe, while he stressed that incisive reforms in the state were imperative, along with privatisations, promising the creation of 120,000 new jobs.
