Terrifying footage has emerged showing a circus trainer being mauled by a lion in a cage during a live show in Egypt. Islam Shaheen, 35, was filmed waving a stick at a lion while another lion is climbing up a ladder during his show in Alexandria. Then a third lion attacks the man savagely, leaving him with fatal injuries. The lion can be seen biting him in the neck before the eyes of children screaming in terror. At that moment other trainers jumped in to aid the unlucky man who is lying wounded on the ground. Shaheen was rushed to Andalusian Salam hospital but died later from his injuries. He had worked as a circus trainer for ten years according to his brother. Mohammed Mustafa, the circus spokesman, said the attack happened as the lion was in the mating season and so behaving erratically.
The lion has been withdrawn from any upcoming shows as a vet checks it over.
