The former acting attorney general Sally Yates had argued that He may have misled officials about the conversation. She also expressed written concerns over Flynn’s potential susceptibility to blackmail due to his communications with Russia
It is illegal for private citizens to conduct US diplomacy, and the calls happened late last year before Flynn was appointed to the administration.
Lt Gen. (ret.) Flynn wrote in his letter of resignation, stated that he had “inadvertently briefed the vice-president-elect and others with incomplete information regarding my phone calls with the Russian ambassador”.
According to a White House announcement, Lt Gen (ret.) Joseph Keith Kellogg has been appointed as interim replacement.
