Drone captures scenes of 2017 in Greece (VIDEO)

Filmed by Up Drones, the video features beautiful scenes from the Acropolis to Cape Sounion, along with documenting shocking events such as the oil spill

Newsroom January 8 09:31

It’s been a big 12 months for Greece, and video creator Up Drones has put together a video montage of footage capturing a year in the life of the Hellenic Republic.

The video captures sites that have been abandoned and or destroyed, such as the drilling rigs in the Saronic Gulf, and the second tallest tower of Greece, the Tower of Piraeus.

Also featured is businessman Lakis Gavalas’ ‘palace of fashion’ that has been sealed on a plot of land in Kantza since he was jailed, and the marble villa of deceased gallery owner and art collector Alexandros Iolas, which since his death has been looted, destroyed, expropriated, and the subject of litigation.

The drone also flies over the Olympic facilities that have been abandoned 13 years after the 2004 Olympic Games, and water park Copa Copana.

Up Drones also managed to document the major natural disasters that took place across the country including the flash floods in Mandra and Thriasio, along with the major oil spill that took place in September, spreading from Salamis to Glyfada, a significant environmental disaster that turned the waters black.

But it isn’t all dire, with the creators ensuring they also showcased the many beautiful parts of life in Greece, including footage of the stunning Acropolis, Chaos of Lavrio, and the twin lakes of Zerelia near Almyros. There are also scenes of the Temple of Poseidon in Sounion, the Sleeping Lion in Nafplio, the Elliniko Pyramid in Argos-Mykines, the Mycenaean Acropolis in Kopaida, and the historical ‘Olympia’ (trireme), amongst others.
