A beautiful Japanese garden in Athens is a breath of fresh air (photos)

The garden project is under the auspices of the Japanese Embassy

Newsroom November 18 01:41

The Nereid Park in Pagrati was recently transformed into a unique garden with a strong Japanese ‘aroma’ for the area behind the emblematic building of the National Gallery in Athens.

The metamorphosis of the park took place in the framework of the program “Adopt your city” of the Municipality of Athens, with the generous support of the company Japan Tobacco International (JTI) in full alignment with its goal for a Sustainable Future based on three sub-pillars: The Economy, the Environment and the Society.

The Embassy of Japan in Greece could not be missing from the project as the garden project is under its auspices.

The Nereid Park in its new form is going to be an important attraction for the recreation of both residents and visitors of the city, creating a thematic “green oasis”.

JTI’s initiative to create the first Japanese garden in Greece is another important milestone in the company’s journey and its commitment to ‘return’ to the societies in which it operates.

The new layout of the park aims to create a space that will be a unique experience for citizens and will improve the quality of life in the city. The park was designed with the aim of being an ecosystem that will contribute to the aesthetic and climatic upgrade of the wider area, and to the increase of biodiversity.

Japanese gardens around the world are cultural and botanical treasures, as they pay tribute to the various periods of Japanese culture and history. Japanese gardens are one of the traditional cultural and spiritual symbols of Japan and their history dates back to the 6th century AD.
