North Korean Missile Tests Intensify in 2022 (infographic)

North Korea also declared before one of the latest launches that it would take a "stronger and certain reaction" now that more U.S. sanctions have taken effect

Newsroom January 18 04:31

North Korean missile tests have intensified in 2022. In the first three weeks of the year, the country has already tested six missiles, among them tactical guided and hypersonic types.

North Korea also declared before one of the latest launches that it would take a “stronger and certain reaction” now that more U.S. sanctions have taken effect, according to Bloomberg.

As the accompanying data shows, tensions between the United States and North Korea have been rising again after a test-less 2018. In 2018 and early 2019, two summits between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. President at the time, Donald Trump, brought tests to a halt but eventually rendered no concrete results, and rhetoric between the two nations grew heated again quickly.

2019 ended up seeing as many missile tests as 2017 when North Korea’s demonstration of its ability to reach the U.S. with its missiles led to a diplomatic crisis. However, intercontinental or even intermediate and medium-range missile tests have not yet returned since 2017, as the data shows.
