PM Mitsotakis to Ministers: “I can relieve you of your duties if you want…so you can prepare for early elections…”

The PM said elections would be held at the end of the government's four-year term

Newsroom April 29 02:47

PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis called on his government’s Ministers to ‘get back to work’ or he could ‘relieve’ them of their duties and ‘allow’ them to focus on their re-election campaigns in their constituencies, ruling out the prospect of snap elections.

At the end of the cabinet meeting, Mitostakis addressed government officials, saying “some of you do not believe me when I say that the elections will take place next year.”
Mitsotakis sent a clear and unequivocal message that elections would be held at the end of the government’s 4-year term.

The PM reportedly stressed that “it has come to my attention that some people may not believe that this is exactly my intention”, while his message continued, as some sources report him saying: “If any of you think that you need more time to prepare for the elections, do not hesitate to tell me. I can relieve you of your duties so that you can dedicate yourself exclusively to the preparation of the elections “.

“I have said many times that we will run out our four year-term. This means that the time horizon of the government project is 12 months. That is why you have been asked by the government secretariat to plan a government plan with this horizon in mind.”

“I say this jokingly, but to emphasise that we have a year ahead of us, we have to face great difficulties, great challenges.”
