Greece to experience ‘mini-heatwave’

The temperatures will reach up to 37 degrees

Newsroom May 25 04:14

Greece is bracing for a ‘mini’ heatwave, as the meteorological services forecast a spike in temperatures over the next days, which are predicted to peak at 35 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday it will cool down, with temporary showers and hail forecast and a drop in the temperature.

In the coming days, the heat is expected to peak, as African dust is expected to create more turbidity in the atmosphere.

Fairly high temperatures that will reach 35 degrees Celsius, will prevail in Attica, Thessaloniki and other areas, with the mercury remaining high until Friday.

The heat is expected to peak on Thursday, while on Saturday, the ‘invasion’ of African dust will be at its height.

For Thursday, during the hot hours of the day, local rains and thunderstorms are expected, mainly in mountainous areas of the mainland. In Eastern Macedonia and Thrace there is a possibility of local storms in the lowlands. Thunderstorms are likely to be accompanied by local hailstorms.

The temperature will rise above normal for the season, according to the meteo of the National Observatory of Athens, and will range in Western Macedonia from 13 to 32 degrees, in the rest of Northern Greece from 13 to 37, in Epirus from 11 to 33 degrees in Thessaly from 13 to 36, in the rest of the mainland from 12 to 36 degrees, in the Ionian islands from 12 to 32 and in the island parts of the Aegean and in Crete from 11 to 34 degrees and in the islands of the Southeastern Aegean up to 35 degrees Celsius.

Sunny weather is expected in Attica with a chance for light clouds. The winds will blow from different directions with intensities up to 2-3 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 21 to 34 degrees.
