Albanian PM Edi Rama on Turkish relations: “Thank you is not enough for my friend Erdogan”

Albania signed a deal to buy Turkish drones

Newsroom December 21 01:33

The Albanian government signed an agreement with the Turkish company Baykar Technologies, which produces Bayraktar drones, with the country’s prime minister, Edi Rama, who attended the ceremony to express his warm thanks to the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“Thank you is not enough for my friend Erdogan,” Edi Rama said in his greeting, also underlining the fact that “we are proud to be on the same side and strategic partners with Turkey.”

“Today is a good day for our relationship with Turkey, our armed forces, and defence ministries,” added Rama, who noted that Erdogan’s role in signing the drone purchase agreement “was decisive.”

Continuing the warm words about Ankara, Rama added that “Albania’s relations with Turkey are getting better and better and are at their best today.”

As he said, Albania not only bought the best technology, but the agreement also provides for the training of thirty people. According to him, the base of the drones will be in Kukova, which is included in NATO clarifying that the drones “will be ready for any operation (meaning even war). We hope this never happens but we live in insecure times. They can be used to counter any national threat.” Rama also added that Turkish drones could also be used for civil protection purposes.

“We have signed an export agreement with Albania, a country with which we have traveled common paths for centuries and are connected by historical, cultural, and humanitarian ties,” wrote the CEO of Baykar Technologies, adding that “the number of countries with which we have signed corresponding agreements for BayraktarTB2 reached 27. Congratulations”
