More than 500,000 travelers from 178 countries took part in the European Best Destinations vote

Newsroom February 20 01:48

Athens, Rhodes, and Milos are included in the 20 best destinations in Europe for holidays in 2023, according to the results of the voting carried out by the European Best Destinations 2023 platform.

More than 500,000 travellers from 178 countries participated in the vote. The 20 best destinations were selected from a pool of 400 candidate areas.

Athens took 2nd place overall while Rhodes and Milos took 14th and 18th place, respectively, with Warsaw in Poland taking the first place.

The other destinations besides the 3 Greek ones were occupied by: Maribor in Slovenia, Vienna in Austria, Cittadella in Italy, Hesse in Germany, Veszprém in Hungary, London in England, Grenoble Alpes in France, Mannheim in Germany, Porto-Santo in Madeira, Toledo in Spain, Faial in the Azores, Copenhagen in Denmark, Tossa de Mar in Spain, Ascona-Locarno in Switzerland, Prague in the Czech Republic and Sóller in Spain.

Regarding the top three Greek destinations, travellers reported the following:

Athens is a must-see destination for many reasons. First of all, it is the cradle of democracy and philosophy, while there are many who believe that the blue sea, the incredible landscapes, and the beautiful sun help the mind and body to escape from everyday life.

On the other hand, visitors consider the island of Rhodes to be one of the most beautiful islands in Greece and certainly one of the most beautiful islands in Europe, a perfect destination for all kinds of holidaymakers as well as lovers of ancient monuments, heritage, medieval fortresses, and castles.
