New 5.6 Richter earthquake hits Turkey – Erdogan promises to 300,000 houses for victims

Erdogan promised to give 100,000 Liras to relatives of the earthquake victims

Newsroom February 28 08:00

Aftershocks continue to rock Turkey, with residents living in absolute terror. A new earthquake occurred, in particular, in central Turkey shortly before 19:00 in the afternoon, Greek time. According to the Euro-Mediterranean Institute, the earthquake was measured at 5.6 on the Richter scale and had a focal depth of 10 km.

The epicenter of the tremor is located in the sea area 195 km NNW of the Adana region.

Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday reiterated the government’s commitment to building new homes for earthquake victims within a year, saying construction work had already begun.

“We started working on the necessary construction of our cities. In a few months, we will start the construction of 309,000 houses. We ask you to give one year for this,” Erdogan said, speaking from Kahramanmaras province.

“We have the determination and strength to make up for all this destruction,” Erdogan added.

An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale occurred at noon on Saturday in Turkey.

The tremor was felt in several parts of the country, which is still struggling to heal from the deadly February 6 earthquakes.
