EC transport specialists meet with PM Mitsotakis in Athens

The EC mission will formulate a set of proposals for better and safer transport in Greece following the fatal train crash in Larissa

Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis met on Wednesday at the Maximos Mansion with European officials on issues concerning railway safety.

The meeting was attended by Kristian Schmidt, the director responsible for land transport in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, European Railways Executive Director Josef Doppelbauer, Elzbieta Lukaniuk, Transport Commissioner’s staff member Adina Valean, and deputy head of the Delegation of the European Commission in Greece, Eleni Paleologu, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Commission in Greece.

The members of the European mission shared with the Prime Minister the initial ideas, which will be formulated into specific proposals, for improving the operation of the railway network, the safety of transport, the upgrading of infrastructure, the adoption of best practices, and the best possible use of European resources for investments in the Greek railways.

For his part, the Prime Minister emphasised that Greece, in the context of the completely transparent investigation of the train tragedy in Tempi, will fully utilise the expertise and experience of the European services.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of State responsible for Infrastructure and Transport issues, Giorgos Gerapetritis, and the director of the Prime Minister’s Diplomatic Office, Ambassador Anna Maria Boura.
