Your Guide to Kos

Kos was one of the first islands in the Aegean to attract large numbers of tourists, as far back as the 1930s

Newsroom July 29 01:10

If you’re looking for a holiday where everything is provided and all you have to do is relax, then Kos just might be for you. Notorious for great service, well maintained beaches, and quality food and drink in abundance, the island provides the full Greek experience. History surrounds you as you enjoy the trappings of modern life.

Kos was one of the first islands in the Aegean to attract large numbers of tourists, as far back as the 1930s when under Italian Rule. Today it remains popular thanks to its long, sandy beaches, warm climate, and vibrant nightlife. It sits just 12 miles from the Turkish coastal town of Bodrum. Boat trips run daily between the Turkish town and the Greek island. The most famous landmark on the island is the Asklepieion (temple of healing), which is just a few kilometres from the main town. Visitors to the shrine are rewarded with stunning panoramic views over Kos town.

But this lush, green island hides many other beauties: the picturesque village of Zia in the mountains, the castles of Antimachia and Kefalos, the hot springs, the wetlands and many ancient monuments. The coastline’s award-winning beaches are flanked by luxury hotels (mostly all-inclusive), with heady beach bars, seafood restaurants, and watersports included. There are many smaller hotels and rooms to let. Traditionally, visitors have come to Kos from the northern countries of Europe. But, in recent times its visitors have diversified, and it has become popular with the Greeks themselves. Tourism is not new to Kos, so everything you need is here, and you can expect high quality.
