Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis speaking to ERT and Giorgos Kouvaras rejected the imposition of party discipline vote for the passing of the bill that would allow the marriage for same-sex couples.

Presenting the bill on same-sex marriage, the Prime Minister said that it complements the framework that already exists with the cohabitation agreement, while regarding children, which according to opinion polls has emerged as the major issue that divides society, he pointed out that for men same-sex couples will not be allowed to have a child through a surrogate mother, but the possibility of adoption.

Regarding the Greek-Turkish relations, he stated that, “we are not close to going to The Hague, but not as far as we were a year ago” and referred to the agreements signed during Erdogan’s recent trip to Athens. He also repeated that the core of the Greek-Turkish is the determination of maritime zones, emphasizing that his government upholds the permanent Greek “red lines” in this matter.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis definitively closed the door on scenarios that have recently come to light and want him to be nominated for a top position in the EU. The Prime Minister categorically rejected these scenarios. He repeated that he will remain Prime Minister, in order to honor the office to which the Greek people elected him.
