The type of cancer has not been disclosed, but according to the announcement he has started a treatments program.

“He remains optimistic about the outcome of the treatment and looks forward to returning to his duties as soon as possible,” Buckingham Palace said.

Although he will suspend his public duties, King Charles will continue to exercise his constitutional role as head of state.

As the announcement concludes, King Charles has chosen to make the diagnosis known to prevent speculation and in the hope that it will help show public understanding to all those affected by cancer.
