PM Mitsotakis: We expect reduced initial prices on 1500 products from early March

Our intervention in the market is structural - More than 20,000 inspections and €12 million in fines

Newsroom February 29 12:50

Kyriakos Mitsotakis extensively discussed measures against inflation in his presentation to the cabinet, announcing that with the interventions that have been made, “we expect reduced initial prices on 1,500 products by early March”.

Addressing the ministers, he also emphasized that we must remain firmly committed to issues concerning the economy, available income, health, and security.

Starting his presentation, the Prime Minister referred to an ongoing and continuous intervention that has been in progress for months, “as inflation still persists in certain goods. We have set a profit limit on baby formula, where we had unjustified increases, and we have restricted suppliers’ offers to 30%”.

“The results of the interventions will gradually become apparent as it is a deep structural intervention. We expect initial prices on 1,500 products to be reduced from early March, and therefore the final prices on these reduced ones,” Mr. Mitsotakis added, announcing that “in the next cabinet meeting, we will decide on the increase of the minimum wage to be implemented from April 1st”.

Regarding farmers, Mr. Mitsotakis stated that “we will discuss legislative initiatives in two critical areas: the protection and promotion of PDO products with the aim of ensuring quality and reliability both domestically and internationally, and addressing the scourge of counterfeit products. In this context, we will have new tiers of inspections for olive oil, honey, and fruits and vegetables, in addition to those for milk and feta cheese”.
