Fredi Beleris: I didn’t expect such a mockery of a trial, Rama was the orchestrator

"The Albanian Prime Minister, with the support of the international community from the beginning of this case, has shown his position"

Newsroom March 6 07:42

“The case against me was orchestrated by the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama”, said the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleris, who was sentenced to two years in prison yesterday, Tuesday.

Speaking on Wednesday (6/3) on ERT from prison while awaiting the reasoning behind the decision against him, Beleris also said that the trial was a farce, to the extent that he himself did not expect it.

As Beleris said, “I did not expect the trial to be such a farce, without any evidence, and I did not expect the judges in the end not to even use logic to avoid deviating from their function and to be the long arm of power”, he said.

He characterized Edi Rama as the “orchestrator” of the case against him and pointed out that “the Albanian Prime Minister, with the support of the international community from the beginning of this case, has shown his position. I believe this is unfair to Albania. Greece exerted as much pressure as it could; Mr. Rama is the master of his country and controls justice, controls all institutions. In Albania, there is a hybrid democracy”.
