Ecumenical Patriarch: Faith in the Resurrection is the deepest expression of our freedom

The message from the Ecumenical Patriarch for Easter, wishes for peace

Newsroom May 1 06:39

“The faith in the Resurrection constitutes the highest expression of freedom, while Orthodox faithful discover their true selves in Christ,” emphasised the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in his Easter message.

“In Orthodoxy evil does not have the final word. On the contrary, faith in the Resurrection serves as a motivation to fight against it. Our faith thus gains ‘transformative power’ and does not allow us to compromise or capitulate to evil.” His All-Holiness addressed those of the Orthdox faith a few days before the Resurrection and the celebration of Easter.

He expressed among other things: “Faith in the Resurrection is the deepest and most profound expression of our freedom or rather its birth as a voluntary acceptance of the supreme divine gift of grace. The Orthodox Church is the space of the truest freedom which in Christian life is the foundation, the path, and the destination. The Resurrection of Christ is the gospel of freedom, the gift of freedom, and the pledge of the common freedom for eternal life of the Kingdom of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
