A couple caused an emergency landing in Heraklion, Crete – See how the passengers cheered

The unusual incident on an easyJet flight and the immediate reaction of the flight crew - He handed the couple over to the Greek police

Newsroom May 3 11:45

An easyJet flight changed course and made an emergency landing in Heraklion due to the disruptive and noisy behaviour of a couple.

More specifically, the unusual incident occurred on 29 April on easyJet flight EZY3165 from Glasgow to Hurghada, Egypt. The captain of the aircraft changed course when a couple got into a heated argument with other passengers.

Surveillance data from the flight showed the aircraft continued to fly over mainland Greece over the Mediterranean before circling around and eventually landing in Heraklion.

The “naughty” couple appeared to be walking away from the front of the plane as footage taken and uploaded to social media by another passenger showed.

Passengers unhappy with the wait cheered and applauded the crew members who took action and removed the couple from the flight.

One traveller commented on the couple’s behaviour: “It was awful. They argued with other passengers for half an hour before the crew intervened. They were abusive and threatening to the crew… The woman was warned to sit down seven times over the loudspeaker as we landed, but she kept getting up,” Michael McLennan, a British holidaymaker told the Mirror.

The couple in question were arrested by Greek police when they were removed from the aircraft.

The easyJet Airbus A320-251N continued on to its original destination and landed in Hurghada at 12:24am local time.

The easyJet statement:

In a statement easyJet said: “easyJet can confirm that flight EZY3165 from Glasgow to Hurghada on 29 April landed in Heraklion to hand over to Greek police two passengers who were behaving in a disruptive manner during the flight. The flight then continued to Hurghada after the passengers were removed. EasyJet crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at all times. Although such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously and do not tolerate this type of behaviour on board the aircraft. The safety and welfare of passengers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”
