“Fofi Gennimata” programme: the SMS for free mammograms for women aged 45-49 and 70-74 years old has started

A total of 566,494 women will receive SMS within the framework of the breast cancer screening programme

Newsroom May 9 03:21

The first SMS to the new age groups included in the “Fofi Gennimata” breast cancer screening programme were sent yesterday, according to the Ministry of Health.

The new beneficiaries are women aged 45 – 49 and 70 – 74, with a total of 566,494. The programme was already in place for women aged 50 – 69.

Every day women who have activated intangible prescription will gradually receive the intangible referral for free preventive mammography by text message (SMS).

Women beneficiaries aged 45-74 years old who have not activated the intangible prescription can, using their AMKA, go to any partner centre in their area (public or private) and make an appointment for the examination, without any financial charge.

Beneficiaries can see the partner centres in their area on the mastografia.gov.gr website.

The sending of all informative SMS for the age group 45 – 49, involving 318,358 female beneficiaries is expected to be completed by Friday 10 May, while the sending of informative SMS for the 248,136 female beneficiaries in the age group 70 – 74 is expected to be completed by Friday 17/5/2024.

It is noted that the “Fofi Gennimata” breast cancer screening programme has been launched by the Ministry of Health under the National Pre-symptomatic Screening Programme PROLAMBANO.

The programme covers 1.4 million women aged 45-74 years and offers free digital mammography screening, free ultrasound and free doctor’s visit for women with findings.

So far, over 300,000 mammograms have already been performed and over 20,000 women have been detected early with symptoms.

The Government is investing a total of over €200 million by 2025 for secondary prevention programmes relating to cancer, the majority of which is coming from the Recovery and Resilience Fund.

“Through the “Fofi Gennimata” breast cancer programme, over 300,000 mammograms have already been carried out and over 20,000 women have been detected early with symptoms.
