Panagiotopoulos: Tension with Turkey in the Aegean costs Greece 100,000,000 euros annually

Greece's sovereign rights will not compromised, nor will the Aegean be shared as some suggest, vital are good communication channels

Nikos Panagiotopoulos, New Democracy’s MP and former Minister of Defense, discussed the recent meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He highlighted improved relations and the importance of open communication channels. Mr. Panagiotopoulos emphasized Greece’s stance on sovereignty in the Aegean and the cost of tensions with Turkey, estimating it at 100 million euros annually. Despite disagreements, he stressed the need for dialogue. Additionally, he mentioned the potential for New Democracy to surpass previous election results.

Further in regards to the European elections, Mr. Nikos Panagiotopoulos stated that New Democracy’s goal is to approach or even surpass the percentage received in the previous election that being the 33% threshold. He expressed that if the party reaches 33% it will be a win for the government. He further noted that the Prime Minister himself has set the afore mentioned target. Mr. Panagiotopoulos also expressed that such objectives require work and underlined that the meaning behind the loaded schedule of all government members throughout the country is to to share to voters the work that has been done. In addition the former Minister of Defence expressed that currently we are all living in an environment of increasing instability therefore, the priority is solidity. Mr. Panagiotopoulos said that efforts have been made, and some results have been achieved noting that there is room for improvement in other areas.
