Sweden: Somalian who strangled his pregnant girlfriend because he didn’t want to tell his mother she was Christian gets life imprisonment

According to the 20-year-old's mother, the 22-year-old had kept his relationship with Saga a secret from his family

Newsroom June 5 09:02

A Somali refugee who murdered his seven-month pregnant girlfriend has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Swedish court.

According to the Daily Mail, Saga Forsgren Elneborg, 20, was found strangled in her home in the town of Orebro in April 2023, in a case that shocked the Scandinavian country.

Prosecutors claimed her 22-year-old boyfriend Mohamedamin Abdirisek Ibrahim, 22, decided to murder her rather than face the shame of telling his Muslim family that his girlfriend – believed to be half Thai, half Swedish and Christian – was expecting a child by him.

They claim that on the night Ibrahim was about to tell his family about Saga’s pregnancy, he went to her apartment and strangled her by wrapping her lamp cord around her neck.

The judge and jury at Örebro District Court agreed and this morning announced that Ibrahim will face life imprisonment.

The 20-year-old’s mother told police that the 22-year-old had kept his relationship with Saga a secret from his family because he was a Muslim and her daughter a Christian.

She also added that she had only met the 22-year-old about three times, despite the fact that her daughter was months pregnant with his baby.
