2024 European Athletics Championships: Miltos Tedoglou qualifies for the final with just one jump

The Olympic and European long jump champion needed only one attempt to secure his spot in the final

Newsroom June 7 02:56

Miltos Tedoglou’s performance in the preliminary round of the European Athletics Championships in Rome was straightforward, as anticipated.

The Olympic, world, and European long jump champion needed only one attempt, recording 8.14m, comfortably surpassing the 8m qualification mark set by the organizers, and securing his spot in tomorrow’s (8/6) final.

Meanwhile, Swiss athlete Simon Ehammer, the bronze medalist at the 2022 World Championships, made an impressive jump of 8.41m, indicating excellent form. The 19-year-old Italian, Mattia Furlani, also a medal favorite, advanced to the final with a jump of 8.17m.

“I mentioned earlier that the main competition would be with Ehammer. It was an easy event, no issues. Recently, I’ve been feeling very fast, but I know the necessary speed for 8.00m, so I don’t have to give my all. As I started quickly, I realized I was going too fast. So, I slowed down in the last meters and adjusted my landing accordingly. It was very easy for me.”

Regarding his conversation with Ehammer: “We talked about his jump. He’s in great shape and one of the favorites.” On the elevated platform: “It’s very good, and there will be strong performances. I don’t prefer it. Even if I make a good jump, I won’t be too excited about it; I don’t consider it a true long jump.” On the competition with the final favorites: “All three of us have the potential to jump far.”
