Newsroom June 21 06:49

“Let us remember today that Giorgos Vasilakis fell in the line of duty an officer serving for the safety of the area he worked in. Let us keep this and honor and remember him always,” said, among other things, the Minister of Civil Protection, Michalis Chrissohoidis at the simple memorial service held in memory of Brigadier General Georgios Vassilakis who lost his life in a terrorist act in June 2010. The ceremony was attended by the political leadership of the ministry and the leadership of the Hellenic Police.

As Mr. Chrysochoidis stressed, “we will always be close to his wife and two children, to remind everyone that we are close to all the victims of violence, terrorism, all these phenomena that have marked our lives, the political and social life of the country, for many decades and are slowly being marginalized, but without disappearing, because, as you know, we have violence constantly before us, in many forms.”

He added that “violence is the most abhorrent form of human behaviour and we really ought, as the authority of the state that fights for social peace, for the preservation of the social contract, for order and security, to fight it in such a way as to reduce it to the minimum as far as possible.”

Addressing the Hellenic Police officers present at the ceremony, he wished “all of us, really drawing on the example of this great officer, every day more and more to promote the security of the Greeks, to be very careful to protect the lives and integrity of citizens and to achieve our goal.”
