PPC Renewables: 40 MW wind farms operational in Western Macedonia (photos)

With new RES projects totaling approximately 1.8 GW currently under construction, PPC is advancing vigorously in its green transformation through its wholly-owned subsidiary PPC Renewables

Newsroom July 12 04:50

The organic growth of PPC Renewables’ renewable energy portfolio is progressing dynamically, with new wind and solar projects continually being completed and added to existing RES projects totaling approximately 1.5 GW of installed capacity. During the first quarter of 2024, the first part of the Koukouli-Doukas wind park complex in Western Macedonia was commissioned.

Specifically, the “Koukouli” wind park, with an installed capacity of 13.5 MW, has been connected to the electrical grid after its completion. Located in the broader area of Siatista, it consists of three 4.5 MW wind turbines expected to generate 38 GWh of energy annually, while also preventing the emission of approximately 22,000 tons of CO2 per year.

Apart from the wind farm “Koukouli,” the wind park cluster in Western Macedonia also includes the “Doukas” wind park near Kleisoura, Kastoria. With an installed capacity of 26 MW from 5 wind turbines of 5.2 MW each, the “Doukas” station is expected to generate 68 GWh annually and prevent the emission of approximately 39,500 tons of CO2 per year once operational. Construction is progressing rapidly, and the station is expected to be operational before the end of the year. The construction of both wind parks began in the summer of 2022.

With new RES projects totaling approximately 1.8 GW currently under construction, PPC is aggressively advancing its green transformation through its wholly-owned subsidiary PPC Renewables. Among the large-scale RES projects being developed is a 550 MW photovoltaic power plant located within the former lignite mines in the broader region of Ptolemaida. This project is one of the largest solar energy projects in Europe.
