Chaos in SYRIZA: Kasselakis Demands Dissenters Leave, Gerovasili and Tsipras Supporters Withdraw

The political temperature hit "red" when the cadres belonging to the 'Tsipras wing' made a series of observations about the upcoming Conference

Newsroom July 23 09:42

According to reports, the ‘8’ cadres belonging to the ‘Tsipras guard’ raised technical issues such as the absence of texts for the party’s Conference, the lack of clarity on whether the conference is regular or extraordinary, the lack of clarity regarding the President’s framework of proposals for changes to the party, and the limited 20-day pre-Conference dialogue, among other technical matters.

Only a few participants had openly addressed these issues, specifically Socrates Famellos and Olga Gerovasili, while SYRIZA PS President Stefanos Kasselakis was not initially online. However, reportedly, when MP Giota Poulou began speaking, Mr. Kasselakis intervened, saying, according to reports, that “whoever likes it,” and whoever doesn’t should leave, showing the exit from the party.

This resulted in Olga Gerovasili being the first to withdraw from the online session, followed by the entire ‘Tsipras guard,’ including Yannis Ragkousis, Katerina Notopoulou, Kostas Zachariadis, and others. The arrows were particularly directed at Olga Gerovasili and Socrates Famellos because they questioned the date of the Congress to avoid coinciding with the PASOK elections. However, Mr. Kasselakis saw this as a “losing line,” as he estimated that his party operates independently of the activities of the others. Following all this, Nikos Pappas intervened and requested that the session continue and that the President retract, although the cadres close to the ’87’ had already withdrawn.
