Santorini: “Reduce travel, 17.000 travelers from cruise ships are coming” a councillor urged residents

The post of the president of the Local Community of Thera caused reactions and finally was deleted

Newsroom July 23 05:44

A post by the president of the Local Community of Thira, Santorini, Panos Kavallaris, caused quite a stir on social media, who – no less – asked the residents of Santorini to limit their travel due to the imminent arrival of 17,000 visitors from cruise ships!

Specifically, the post stated: “Urgent Announcement: Another difficult day for our city and island with the arrival of 17,000 visitors from cruise ships!!! Please be cautious and reduce our movements as much as possible!!!”

Naturally, the reactions of commentators to this post were several and intense, in response to the recent announcement by the island’s mayor that there is a “cap” on the number of visitors from cruise ships so that the infrastructure can cope. Thus, Mr. Kavallaris finally deleted it.
