The Cabinet meets today at 10 am: The three bills on the agenda and the changes in Secretaries

During today’s session, the Prime Minister intends to request that the absences of government officials "do not give the impression that the government is shutting down" - "Limited vacations and return of all to your offices by August 19"

Newsroom July 30 08:58

With an interesting agenda, in which the main focus is expected to be the bill for the completion of land registration, the Cabinet will meet at 10 am today, Tuesday.

The ministers will gather at the Maximos Mansion for the last meeting of the government body before the August holidays, and according to information, they will leave the Prime Minister’s office with clear instructions from Kyriakos Mitsotakis to be “very frugal with the vacations they plan to take.”
Specifically, according to his associates, the Prime Minister intends to ask the members of the Cabinet “to keep their absences outside the walls so limited that it does not give the impression that the government is shutting down.”

Mr. Mitsotakis will call on the ministers to share with their deputies the times they will be away from the ministries, and he will emphasize that everyone should be back in their offices by August 19, when the final phase of the government’s preparation for the Thessaloniki International Fair will begin.

The TIF, as known, is traditionally the milestone for the start of the new political season after the summer break, and the Prime Minister wants his customary speech at the opening of the Fair in early September to signal the restart of the government’s operations with an intensification of efforts to address the problems concerning the daily lives of citizens.

The new secretaries

Meanwhile, in light of the changes announced on Monday (yesterday) in the composition of the general secretaries, Mr. Mitsotakis will call on the ministers to strengthen intergovernmental cooperation. According to his associates, the changes in the General Secretariats of the ministries aim to further accelerate the government’s work and were made after consultation between the Maximos Mansion and all the ministers.

They added that “with the horizon set for 2027 and the bold reform program that must be implemented by then, any appointments, replacements, or transfers were decided after evaluating the work done so far, appreciating the contribution of each individual for a more effective state in the service of citizens.”

The agenda of the Cabinet

As for the Cabinet meeting, the issues to be addressed are as follows:

  • Presentation by the Minister of Justice George Floridis of the bill: Interventions in the Code of Civil Procedure, the Code of Organization of Courts and Status of Judicial Officials, and the Code of Criminal Procedure for the implementation of the new judicial map,
  • Presentation by the Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakis of the bill for the modernization of waste management,
  • Presentation by the Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou and Deputy Minister Konstantinos Kyranakis of the bill for the completion of land registration,
  • Finally, a recommendation by the Minister of State Akis Skertsos regarding the review of the Ministry Action Plans 2024.
