Planes Full of Passengers Collided at a Brazilian Airport

The airport operating company stated that the incident was caused by a mechanical failure in the pushback equipment - No injuries were reported from the accident

Newsroom August 1 10:47

The damage caused to two aircraft when they collided at a Brazilian airport has been captured on video.

The frightening incident occurred when a Gol Airlines plane, full of passengers, was on the runway at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, waiting to depart, while a LATAM Airlines plane, also with passengers, had just landed from Rio de Janeiro. The two planes collided.

The responsible airport company, Aena, stated that the incident was caused by a mechanical failure in the pushback equipment connected to the Gol Airlines aircraft.

Gol Airlines mentioned in a statement to the Brazilian news agency G1 that the wing of the LATAM Airlines Airbus A319 struck the tail of the Boeing 737, leaving a large hole in the fuselage.
