Greek participation in the European Physics Olympiad with successes

The Greek participation in the European Physics Olympiad 2024 returned with a bronze medal and three commendations

With a bronze medal and three commendable mentions, the team of five Greek students who participated from July 15 to 19 in the European Physics Olympiad in Kutaisi, Georgia along with more than 250 peers from 55 countries in Europe, America and Asia returned home.

Ermis Suldatos (Anavryta Standard High School) received a Bronze Medal and Vassilios Tsiouchias (5th High School of Glyfada), Photios-Phobos Apostolaras (Anavryta Standard High School), Lambros Christos Vlachos (Anavryta Standard High School) each received an Honorable Mention. The Greek team also consisted of Valassia Deleparimi Karakosta (2nd Standard High School of Athens).

The Greek team was accompanied by Professor Georgios Tombras, from the Department of Physics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and Chairman of the Board of the Hellenic Society of Physics for Science and Education (HSEPEE) and Dr Panagiotis Tsakonas, member of the HSEPEE, member of the Department of Computer Science of the University of Piraeus and member of the HSEPEE.

The Greek students, who participate in the International Physics Olympiads, are selected exclusively from the official Panhellenic Physics Competitions “Aristotle” and follow an intensive preparation program both in theoretical subjects and in the performance of real experimental exercises in the premises of the Department of Physics of the Hellenic University of Athens.

The “Aristotle” Competitions are held every year by the Department of Physics of the N.C.P.A. and the EEFEE in schools all over the country, with the approval and under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, with absolute transparency and publication of topics and solutions, in accordance with scientific and educational ethics and on the basis of voluntary and non-profit contribution.
