Olympic Games: Stefanidi in the battle for a medal, Tentoglou to receive the gold today – Greek participations on the 12th day

Greece reached 7 medals in Paris yesterday with Tentoglou winning gold in the long jump

Newsroom August 7 08:28

Miltos Tentoglou managed to increase Greece’s medal count to 7 yesterday, winning the first gold for the Greek team at the Olympic Games in Paris. This achievement elevated Greece from 52nd to 29th place with 1 gold, 1 silver, and 5 bronze medals.

The gold medal ceremony for the Greek long jumper will take place today at 19:40 and will be broadcast on ERT2, which will also cover today’s athletics events.

Today, it’s Katerina Stefanidi’s turn to compete for another medal for Greece. The 34-year-old Rio Olympic gold medalist will participate in the women’s pole vault final at 19:15, instead of the originally scheduled 20:00, due to a record number (19) of participants. The 34-year-old Greek world champion competed in the first qualifying group, skipped the first height (4.20m), and secured her spot in the final by clearing 4.40m on her first attempt and 4.55m on her second attempt.

Stefanidi will be Greece’s sole representative in the event final, as Ariadne Adamopoulou was ruled out with a second-degree muscle strain from the qualifiers, despite having secured her final spot.

On the 12th day of the Paris Olympic Games, the major highlight is the men’s national water polo team’s crucial match against Serbia (16:35) for a spot in the tournament’s top four.

At 12:00, the women’s freestyle 53kg wrestling matches begin with Maria Prevolaraki facing Germany’s Annika Wendle in the fifth match of the series. At 12:50, Elina Tzengko will also compete in Group B of the women’s javelin throw qualifiers.

Finally, in sailing, Cameron Alexander Maramenides continues his competition in Marseille on the fourth day of the formula kite event.

The detailed schedule for Greek athletes on the 12th day of the Paris Olympic Games is as follows:

Wednesday, August 7

Wrestling – Champ de Mars Arena – ERT3 14:00
