Weather During the Week of August 15th

The upcoming days will feature high temperatures on the mainland of Greece and strong northerly winds in the Aegean. These winds will reach 6 to 7 Beaufort, and possibly up to 8 Beaufort on Sunday, helping to keep temperatures in coastal areas at more comfortable levels.

However, in the interior of the mainland, temperatures will reach, and in some places exceed, 38°C, especially in western Greece, where temperatures could approach 40°C during the week of August 15th.

Detailed Forecast:

  • Friday: Generally clear weather, with temporary clouds in the mainland during the afternoon, leading to local showers or isolated thunderstorms, mainly in mountainous areas. Winds will be northerly in the Aegean, reaching up to 6 or 7 Beaufort, and in the Ionian Sea, they will be light, turning to northwest at 4 to 5 Beaufort in the afternoon. Temperatures will reach 34 to 36°C, and locally up to 37 to 38°C on the mainland.
  • Saturday: Similar conditions with mostly clear skies, temporary clouds in the mainland during the afternoon, with local showers or isolated thunderstorms in northern mountainous areas. Winds will be northerly, 3 to 5 Beaufort, up to 6 in the northern Ionian, and 6 to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean. Temperatures will remain steady, reaching 35 to 38°C on the mainland, 34 to 36°C on the Ionian Islands, eastern Aegean islands, Dodecanese, and southern Crete, and 30 to 33°C in other island areas.
  • Sunday: Mostly clear, with temporary clouds in the mainland during the afternoon, possibly causing local showers or thunderstorms, particularly in central and northern mountainous areas. Winds will be northerly, 3 to 5 Beaufort, up to 6 locally in the Ionian, and 6 to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean. Temperatures will rise slightly, especially in the eastern island regions.

Meteorologists, including Sakis Arnaoutoglou and Klearchos Marousakis, have shared forecasts indicating that the week of August 15th will be marked by high temperatures. Arnaoutoglou’s temperature chart suggests that the temperatures will stay above 35-36°C, with some areas experiencing increased humidity.

Marousakis notes that weather conditions will remain largely unchanged until August 15th, with meltemi winds dominating the Aegean, heat intensifying in the west and south, and showers persisting in mountainous areas of the mainland. In summary, typical summer weather is expected.
