Thessaloniki: The “vegan arsonists” didn’t burn down the egg factory, but claimed responsibility!

The fire likely started due to negligence, and the Fire Brigade finds no signs of arson—However, the vegan organization claimed responsibility, saying, "If you rebuild it, we will burn it down again"—Watch video

Newsroom August 29 07:26

The fire, which broke out possibly due to negligence, was not caused by arson, and the Fire Brigade found no signs of arson.

However, the vegan organization claimed responsibility, stating, “If you rebuild it, we will burn it down again.”

In an unusual turn of events, the fire at the egg factory in Thessaloniki was not an arson as initially thought, but rather a blaze that likely started from negligence. A vegan activist group quickly claimed responsibility, asserting that they were behind the fire.

According to the latest information, the Fire Brigade has found no evidence of arson at the site that was destroyed. Instead, all indications suggest that the fire may have started due to some technical malfunction and spread due to negligence.

As reported by protothema.gr, at the time of the fire, there were two people present at the facility, one of whom was a security guard stationed outside. Once the fire was detected inside the facility, the employees attempted to extinguish it using the available fire extinguishers but were unsuccessful, leading to the complete destruction of the facility. The investigation is being handled by the Thessaloniki Investigative Unit, and a report from the forensic expert is awaited.

The vegan group, however, was not the actual arsonist

The case took an interesting turn when, on the morning of the incident, it was revealed that an announcement claiming responsibility for the fire was posted by a group of vegan activists on an anarchist page.

In their statement from August 25, they wrote: “We refuse to passively watch the slaughter and fight with fire” and added: “If you rebuild it, we will burn it down again.” In a postscript, they stated, “There are many types of garbage that contribute to the extermination of animals in one way or another. By far the worst of these are meat-eating environmentalists.”

However, it appears from the developments that this group has no actual connection to the incident and likely claimed the action (arson) to create an impression, which never actually occurred.

Full statement:

“We take responsibility for the arson of the egg production company TSAKIRIS FAMILY in the Thessaloniki area.

Your grief over the destroyed ‘property’ is a source of amusement for us. You are not businesspeople; you are murderers of millions of animals. Thousands of animals die every day under appalling conditions for the taste of their flesh, providing immeasurable profits to the bosses. Sentient beings that can feel every emotion we do are treated as raw material for capitalist production.

In a world where the extermination of the defenseless (animals) is normalized, we refuse to be part of it. We refuse to passively watch the slaughter and fight with fire. We do not wait for the ‘right time’ to deal with animals as the pretentious professional revolutionaries demand. We decide that the right time is now and we proceed with relentless struggle.
