The Incident

The incident occurred when the Greek-Canadian stockbroker, who was in Heraklion, Crete, on vacation with his family, made a remark to a group of Cretans in a café-bar after one of them burned his hand with a cigarette.

This remark apparently “offended” the Cretans, who reacted violently and brutally beat the stockbroker in front of his children. Following the attack, the victim was immediately taken to Venizeleio Hospital with severe head injuries, where he underwent a lengthy surgery to treat his wounds.
