Georgia: The 14-year-old who killed 4 students and teachers had been investigated by the FBI for threats of a school massacre – Photos

The teachers taught mathematics – The two students killed by Colt Gray's gunfire were just 14 years old

Newsroom September 5 07:00

Colt Gray is the 14-year-old who, yesterday (Wednesday), opened fire and killed two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School in Georgia.

According to American media outlets, the 14-year-old student had been on the FBI’s radar since 2023 as part of an investigation into online threats of a school attack.

According to the same sources, in May 2023, the FBI received anonymous tips about threats of violence at a school, with the posts including photos of guns. Gray was considered a potential suspect at the time, and both he and his father were interrogated. During discussions with FBI agents, Gray’s father admitted to keeping hunting rifles at home but claimed his son did not have unsupervised access to them.

The FBI concluded at the time that no further action was needed, but local authorities in Georgia were informed to monitor Gray.

The Victims

The head of the team handling the case announced that the four people killed by the 14-year-old’s gunfire were:

  • 14-year-old Mason Schermerhorn
  • 14-year-old Christian Angulo
  • Teacher Richard Aspinwall
  • Teacher Christina Irimai

The two educators were math teachers at the high school, and Aspinwall was also a member of the school’s football team.

Gray was arrested shortly after the shooting and was found in possession of an AR-15 rifle. Reports indicate that he will be tried as an adult.

Officials told CNN that shortly before the massacre, a call was made to the school stating that “there would be shootings at five schools, with Apalachee being the first.”

Following the massacre, Barrow County announced a mini lockdown for schools in the area, which will remain closed for the rest of the week.
