The new measures for income support of doctors in the National Health System (ESY) are being detailed at this moment by the political leadership of the Ministry of Health in a press conference. The importance the government places on the health services provided to citizens and the reconfiguration of the NHS is evident from its choice to have the Ministry of Health be among the first in the individual meetings following the announcements at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF).

On the table at yesterday’s discussion was the new way of taxing the on-call duties of NHS doctors, the incentives for staffing arid areas, the way on-call duties in Attica will be operated, as well as free afternoon surgeries that will relieve the long list of cases waiting for surgery in a public hospital.

“The priorities for the coming months are moving towards implementing the flagship programme of free afternoon surgeries as quickly as possible. We are awaiting final approval from the European Commission, so that this programme can start immediately. It will benefit more than 30,000 of our fellow citizens and our aim is through this program to significantly reduce waiting lists for surgeries, starting from the oldest cases and moving to the newest ones,” the Prime Minister said after the meeting held at the Maximou with the political leadership of the Health Ministry.
