Mitsotakis’ visit to New York begins with a speech at the UN – The Prime Minister’s agenda and contacts

The Prime Minister will address the plenary session of the Future Summit at 22:00-22:30 GMT

Newsroom September 22 08:55

With a speech at the Future Summit, meetings with Jewish organizations and Arab leaders, the first day of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis‘s program begins in New York.

The Prime Minister will address the plenary session of the Future Summit between 13.00-13.30 (New York time – 22:00-22:30 Greece time) in the United Nations General Assembly Hall.

The Summit on the Future is initiated by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and is part of the UN’s broader efforts to address critical global challenges such as geopolitical tensions, economic instability, human rights, digital governance and threats to global peace, and to reform the international system to make it future-ready.

The summit builds on the UN 2020 Declaration on the 75th anniversary of the international organization and aims to reinvigorate global cooperation.

Greece is expected to support the Pact for the Future at the UN, which focuses on peace, sustainable development, technology and global governance, reaffirming the principles of the UN Charter.

At noon (local time) the Prime Minister will hold meetings with Jewish organizations. Kyriakos Mitsotakis will have a meeting with the President of the World Jewish Congress Ronald Lauder.

Later, the prime minister will have a bilateral meeting with Prince Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah at the offices of the emirate’s permanent delegation in New York to enhance political dialogue, economic relations and investment at the bilateral level.

The Sheikh of Kuwait plays a central role in the governance, diplomacy and overall direction of the country.

There is interest in increasing investment between the two countries, particularly in real estate, energy infrastructure and tourism. Kuwait has invested in Greek real estate and tourism projects, while Greek companies are involved in various projects in the emirate.

Greece is not a major oil producer, but it is an importer of Kuwaiti oil. The two countries have explored opportunities for cooperation in the energy sector, including renewable energy.
