Diamantopoulou: My goal is to transform party culture away from internal conflicts

"In 2 years PASOK may be the first party" - "I cannot say whether I am better than Geroulanos", said the presidential candidate

Newsroom September 27 11:15

Anna Diamantopoulou, the party’s presidential candidate, spoke about the latest developments surrounding PASOK’s internal party elections.

Speaking about the new controversy between Nikos Androulakis and Haris Doukas, Diamantopoulou reiterated on SKAI television the call that in PASOK “we should not stick to Syriza”. “The last days in an election are the toughest, where knives come out, all kinds of attacks are made. I accept that too. If you go on the Internet, you can see what’s happening,” he added, without knowing if it was a troll.

“What I want to say is that a very good debate was held on Tuesday and so far the whole election season has gone very well. We have 10 days left and what we want is for very many people to come to the polls because that will be the sign that the political system will change. Because people are looking at PASOK again. It is not only the 12% who come to vote, it is the society that wants a change. But to achieve this, everyone must passionately support whichever candidate they want, but not blame the others,” the PASOK presidential candidate said, noting that “this is exactly what I want to change the next day, the logic of the party that creates armies with groups and conflicts.”

At the same time, she assured that she is also agreeable to a new debate with her opponent if she is in the second round, and recalled that she had proposed that PASOK create a YouTube channel where all the candidates could have “5-6 debates, talk about all the specific policies and those who want from the citizens can watch us whenever they want.”

“I can’t say if I’m better than Sen. Gerulano”

Asked about Pavlos Geroulanos and the clash between them in the debate, Anna Diamantopoulou said she was attacked by him, but said that “I prefer to speak for myself, I cannot say whether I am better or worse”. As she said:

“In this effort, I am putting down a very long journey which has experience. I entered politics on my own, a girl of 18 years old, and I followed the whole route of the party. I decided at some point, without leaving my political space at all, to do other things. The party life does not help you by itself, I belong to the category of people who believe you always need a political life as well as a private life. And do other things and get out in society and see people from a different perspective.”

Finally, in response to a possible collaboration with the current government, he said “You want me to answer you about what we are going to do three years from now, but as you can see the political scene is very fluid. We see ND losing 13-14 points, we see SYRIZA trying to regroup, so in 2 years PASOK may be the first party and the correlations may change.”
