Opinion Poll: Southwest Region Leads, PASOK Showdown, and Kasselakis Holds Strong Lead Among SYRIZA Voters

Marginal lead of Androulakis over Harry Doukas in PASOK, increased interest in the election - Public opinion wants Famello in SYRIZA, but almost one in two voters of the party supports Kasselakis

Newsroom September 30 08:14

An opinion poll presented on Action 24’s main newscast shows a 12-point lead for New Democracy (ND) over PASOK, with SYRIZA trailing in fifth place. The poll, conducted by Opinion Poll, reveals a tight race in PASOK’s internal elections, with a marginal lead for Nikos Androulakis over Charis Doukas. Among SYRIZA voters, Stefanos Kasselakis enjoys a significant lead of 45%.

The survey, conducted from September 24-28 among a sample of 1,502 households, coincided with notable events, such as the Prime Minister’s speech at the UN and the PASOK presidential candidates’ debate. The findings highlight political shifts and upcoming challenges for both PASOK and SYRIZA as they navigate internal elections and public sentiment.

PASOK: Androulakis vs. Doukas in a Close Race

In terms of public appeal, Androulakis leads with 26.5% of those planning to vote, closely followed by Doukas with 25.8%. Among PASOK voters, Androulakis holds a slight edge with 32.2%, setting the stage for a likely runoff between the two candidates. Other prominent candidates, such as Anna Diamantopoulou and Pavlos Geroulanos, lag in both public and PASOK-specific support.

When asked which candidate could defeat Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, voters showed mixed results, with 14.3% favoring Androulakis and 11.5% leaning towards Doukas. Overall, the findings suggest a neck-and-neck race that will likely be decided in the second round.

SYRIZA: Kasselakis Leads, Party Faces Uncertainty

Among SYRIZA voters, Kasselakis leads with 43.5%, followed by Socratis Famellos at 25.8% and Pavlos Polakis at 14%. However, general public sentiment favors Famellos over Kasselakis by 26.3% to 21.1%. The poll also indicates that 74.8% of the public expects SYRIZA to continue experiencing a crisis and further decline, with only 17.9% believing the party will recover.

Political Landscape: ND Maintains a Significant Lead

In overall voting intention, ND remains the dominant force with 25%, holding a 12.1% lead over PASOK, which has risen to 12.9%. SYRIZA continues its downward trend, now polling at just 7.1%, behind the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) at 8.1% and Greek Solution at 7.2%. Smaller parties like VOICE OF LOGIC, Freedom Sailing, and NIKI trail further behind, while undecided voters make up a sizable 22.4% of the electorate.

Though the survey refrains from projecting a final vote estimate, the results offer a snapshot of Greece’s evolving political dynamics, with ND continuing to dominate while PASOK gains momentum and SYRIZA faces growing challenges.
