Justice Minister Georgios Florides Unveils Legislative Initiatives for 2025 Amid Protests

Florides' legislative initiatives are aimed at speeding up the administration of justice on the one hand and enabling the judiciary to enter the new century equipped with the necessary tools

Justice Minister Georgios Florides addressed the legislative initiatives set to be implemented by 2025 during the celebration of the Day of Justice (Dionysios Areopagitis) at the Old Parliament building. Concurrently, a group of lawyers staged a protest against the shortcomings of the ‘new’ judicial charter outside the venue.

In his address, Florides emphasized that the Justice Ministry’s planned legislative initiatives aim to accelerate the administration of justice and modernize the judiciary with essential resources. Key initiatives include:

President of the Plenary of the Presidents of the Bar Associations and Athens Bar Association, Dimitris Vervesos, criticized the new Judicial Charter’s implementation, stating it has led to regression rather than improvement. He highlighted the increasing delays in the administration of justice and called for immediate reforms to restore effective judicial processes.

Additionally, Christoforos Sevastidis, President of the Union of Judges and Prosecutors, addressed current issues plaguing the justice sector, particularly affecting judges and prosecutors.

The event was also attended by Deputy Minister of Justice Ioannis Bougas, President of the Council of State Michalis Pikramenos, and President of the Court of Audit Sotiria Douni. The ceremony featured the choir of the Athens Bar Association, led by conductor and lawyer Dimitris Karouzos.
