The student dormitories in Paphos that cost 15 million Euros and look like a five-star hotel (photos)

What benefits do students enjoy and what are the rental costs?

Newsroom October 9 02:53

The new dormitories of the Municipality of Paphos stand out from the ordinary and are more reminiscent of a boutique hotel than traditional student accommodation. With the building’s highly aesthetic design, spacious and stylish rooms, as well as luxurious, comfortable mattresses, they offer an environment that radically upgrades the concept of student accommodation.

This new complex is part of a wider strategy of the Paphos Municipality for the development of higher education in the region. The aim is to turn Paphos into an educational hub that will attract students not only from Cyprus but also from abroad. Already, with the School of Tourism Management of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and the newly established American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo, the city is beginning to acquire its academic character. What makes this project really special is that for the first time in Cyprus a local authority is taking over the establishment and management of a student residence. The Municipality of Paphos did not limit itself to the construction of a building, but focused on meeting an essential social need: providing affordable and modern accommodation for students, while ensuring the appropriate conditions for their living.

The story behind the project begins in January 2022, when the City Council, at the initiative of Mayor Phaedon Phaedonos, made the decision to proceed with the creation of the dormitory. The project was completed within two years and cost a total of 15 million euros. The building that was erected is imposing and elegant, with a total area of 5,540 square meters and is located in a privileged location, next to the School of TE.PA.K. and the Holy Church of Panagia Pantanassa.

However, it is not only the location that makes these dorms unique. With modern infrastructure, comfortable rooms and high quality common areas, these halls of residence are a model of what student life can be like. Designed with comfort and practicality in mind, students have access to a space that can meet their every need while providing an environment that promotes calm and concentration.

The fact that most of the funding was secured through a loan from the European Investment Bank, with a government guarantee, shows the confidence the state has in this project. The Municipality of Paphos was also able to secure the resources for the purchase of the land, reinforcing its commitment to the completion of this project. The cost of renting rooms in the new Paphos Municipality student halls of residence is 550 euros per month, a price that reflects the high standard of facilities and the modern aesthetics of the premises. At the same time, for students from low-income families, the rent is 350 euros per month, in an effort by the Municipality to support economically vulnerable groups and ensure that all students have access to comfortable and quality accommodation.

The new dormitories of Pafos are not just a building. It is a symbol of a new era for the city, investing in education, in young people and in its development as a modern academic hub. Through this project, Paphos aspires to consolidate its place on the map of higher education, offering its students not only academic opportunities, but also a quality everyday life that will help them to prosper and excel. The Paphos Municipality student halls of residence, as depicted in the photos published by protothema.gr, exude a sense of modern luxury and high quality design.

Inside the rooms, purity of lines and simplicity of design meet comfort and functionality. Each room features large glass doors that allow light to flood the space while offering unobstructed views of the city. The rooms are equipped with the essentials for comfortable living, including modern furniture, a desk, a comfortable bed, a small refrigerator and a TV, creating an environment ideal for study and rest.

Particularly impressive is the exterior of the building, which, especially at night, is illuminated by subtle spotlights that highlight its architecture. The high-rise structure is surrounded by well-maintained spaces and offers balconies with views of the city.
